BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- China urged the United States to immediately correct its wrongdoing and lift Iran-related sanctions on Chinese companies and citizens, according to the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.

China has repeatedly stated its firm opposition to unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law or authorization from the United Nations Security Council, the ministry's spokesperson Huang Ling said at a regular press briefing.

Despite China's repeated representations, the U.S. side has on multiple occasions slapped sanctions on Chinese companies and citizens over alleged Iran-related ties, she said, noting that China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to such actions.

The U.S. unilateral sanctions improperly interfere with normal economic and trade exchanges between relevant countries and severely disrupt global energy security and stable supply, the spokesperson said.

China urged the U.S. side to immediately correct its wrongful practices and lift the sanctions, and will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its enterprises and citizens, Huang added.
