TOKYO, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks ended mixed on Thursday, as a pullback in Japanese government bond yields boosted sentiment, while declines in some heavyweight shares weighed on the Nikkei index.
The benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 111.16 points, or 0.17 percent, from Wednesday at 64,214.48.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 20.44 points, or 0.50 percent, higher at 4,102.04.
On the top-tier Prime Market, electric power and gas issues as well as wholesale trade shares were notable gainers, while mining and nonferrous metal stocks led decliners.
The benchmark 10-year Japanese government bond yield, which recently breached the 3 percent mark for the first time in about 30 years, retreated in tandem with U.S. Treasury yields, lifting investor sentiment in the stock market.
However, losses in some heavyweight shares pulled the Nikkei lower, with Fast Retailing, operator of the Uniqlo clothing chain, among the notable drags after it posted a year-on-year drop in August sales on Wednesday. ■
