JAKARTA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) detected 61 hotspots around Nusantara, the country's new capital, with fires burning about 400 hectares of land, an official said Thursday.
The affected areas are located in Kutai Kartanegara and North Penajam Paser regencies in East Kalimantan province, according to Berton SP Panjaitan, acting head of BNPB's Data, Information and Disaster Communication Center.
A joint team involving the Nusantara Capital Authority, local disaster agencies, the military, police and forest-fire personnel has been deployed to contain the fires.
However, firefighting efforts have been hampered by limited road access and the distance of water sources from the affected areas, he said. ■
