DHAKA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- In the span of less than nine months this year, the mosquito-borne dengue fever has claimed more than 100 lives and infected nearly 40,000 people across Bangladesh.
Based on the latest record of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the dengue prevalence has reached a worrying situation this year, with a total of 39,532 cases and 111 deaths recorded as of Sept. 3.
According to the latest figure reported by the DGHS, the dengue deaths this year included 14 so far in September, 43 in August, 36 in July and 13 in June.
The country recorded 4 more deaths and 1,252 more dengue infections in the 24 hours till 8:00 a.m. local time on Thursday, DGHS data showed.
From Sept. 1 to 3, meanwhile, 3,686 new dengue cases were recorded after 20,536 people were reported to be infected with the mosquito-borne disease last month, according to the DGHS.
The infection tally so far this month indicates the fast-rising trend of the mosquito-borne disease in parts of the country.
The June-September monsoon period is the season of dengue fever in Bangladesh, which is considered a high-risk nation prone to mosquito-borne diseases. ■
