SINGAPORE, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's economy is expected to grow 5 percent this year, up from the 3.5 percent forecast in the previous survey, with most sectors receiving upgrades, according to the Monetary Authority of Singapore's latest survey of professional forecasters released on Wednesday.

The most likely outcome is for the Singapore economy to grow by 5 percent to 5.4 percent, with an average probability of 37 percent, the survey showed.

The most frequently cited downside risks were an escalation or prolonged conflict in the Middle East and a bursting of the artificial intelligence (AI) bubble, which could trigger spillovers to financial markets.

On the upside, all respondents identified a sustained AI-driven upturn in the technology cycle as a key support for Singapore's economic outlook. Other upside risks included a de-escalation or resolution of the Middle East conflict and stronger-than-expected global growth.

Singapore's economy expanded 5.9 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, significantly exceeding the respondents' median forecast of 4.3 percent in the previous survey.

For the third quarter, respondents expect gross domestic product growth to moderate to 4.6 percent year-on-year. The median forecast for Singapore's economic growth in 2027 is 3.1 percent.
