JAKARTA, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- The eruption of Mount Sinabung in Indonesia's North Sumatra province has caused 15 flights to and from Jakarta to be canceled and 14 others to be delayed, an airport official said Wednesday.

Yudistiawan, assistant deputy for communication and legal affairs at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, said the cancellations were caused by the impact of the eruption, which was classified as a force majeure event.

On Tuesday, the route between Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, west of Jakarta, and Kualanamu International Airport in North Sumatra recorded 41 aircraft movements, comprising 20 arrivals and 21 departures, carrying around 5,350 passengers.

Soekarno-Hatta airport management is coordinating with airlines and relevant authorities to monitor Mount Sinabung's activity and anticipate potential flight disruptions.

Passengers traveling to or from Kualanamu were advised to check the latest flight information with their respective airlines.
