SINGAPORE, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Singapore is expected to experience continued dry conditions in the first half of September, with the prevailing Southwest Monsoon bringing mainly southeast or southwest winds, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Tuesday.
The dry conditions have also led to an escalation in hotspots and smoke haze across the region, with dense haze observed over southern and central Sumatra and parts of Kalimantan since around Aug. 21, the agency said in a statement.
The city state could experience hazy conditions if fires intensify, it said.
According to the statement, fair and occasionally windy weather is forecast on most days, particularly in the first week, with localized short-duration thundery showers possible over parts of the island in the late morning and afternoon.
Rainfall for the first fortnight is expected to be below average across most areas. ■
