SINGAPORE, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Singapore is seeing an increase in influenza activity, with the influenza positivity rate rising to 36.6 percent in the week of Aug. 16 to 22, the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) said on Tuesday.

The rate, which measures influenza-positive samples among influenza-like illness cases in the community, rose from 24 percent in the previous week, the CDA said in a statement.

However, the CDA said there was no indication that the infections were more severe than usual.

The current positivity rate remains below last year's peak of 43.9 percent, recorded in January 2025.

National surveillance data show that seasonal influenza viruses circulate throughout the year in Singapore, with higher activity typically recorded between May and August, and December and March.

These two peaks broadly coincide with the winter periods in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, although their timing can vary from year to year due to factors including international travel and population mixing, said the CDA.
