THE HAGUE, Sept.1 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and two police officers were injured in a shooting in the eastern Dutch town of Overasselt early Tuesday morning, Dutch police said.
According to local media reports, the shooting may have been linked to drug trade.
Police said they received an initial report of a suspicious situation at around 4:00 a.m. local time. One person died at the scene, while two police officers who responded to the report were injured. They were taken to hospital and are now out of danger.
"Several arrests have since been made. We are also conducting investigations at multiple locations in Overasselt to secure evidence," the police said in a statement.
Dutch Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel described the shooting as "horrific" and said, "We will not tolerate this violence." ■
