MADRID, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid has signed 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander, Racing confirmed Monday.
Martinez, who scored in Racing's opening game of the season, joins after Real Madrid activated his 3 million-euro release clause and agreed to a contract through June 2030.
Although he has already played in La Liga, Real Madrid initially plans for Martinez to play for its reserve team, Real Madrid Castilla, while also training with the first team.
"Good luck, Sergio, we are very proud of your progress in our club and how you have defended our colors in all of these years. El Sardinero Stadium will always be your home," Racing said on social media. ■
