BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The first emergency communication base station near the border gate at Gyirong Port on the China-Nepal border in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region was put into operation at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to China Unicom.

Located 1.2 km from the border gate, the base station fills a communication coverage gap, providing stable and reliable support for rescue operations, road clearance, material transport and frontline workers.

China Unicom said it has activated an all-network emergency mode and enabled 5G cross-network roaming to improve network coverage, stability and resilience in the border area.

The company said it will keep tracking road clearance and disaster response progress, maintain standby mobile base stations, and continue optimizing network quality.
