MOMCHILOVTSI, Bulgaria, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The ninth edition of the Yogurt Culture Festival kicked off on Friday in Momchilovtsi, a picturesque village in southern Bulgaria, presenting the rich heritage of yogurt and local traditions.
Located in the heart of the Central Rhodope Mountains, Momchilovtsi is renowned for its residents' longevity and healthy lifestyle.
The three-day festival serves as a vibrant cultural gathering, attracting thousands of tourists from both Bulgaria and abroad. Visitors can savor the finest homemade yogurt, artisanal cheese, jams and local tea, while exploring folk craft exhibitions.
In a congratulatory message at the opening ceremony, Bulgarian Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov said that the festival promotes Momchilovtsi and the surrounding region as a premier tourist destination, with a special emphasis on culinary tourism.
The first Yogurt Culture Festival was held in 2015, laying the foundation for the now beloved annual tradition. ■
