KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia has joined the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) to strengthen national cooperation in vaccine research, development and innovation, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said on Friday.
This partnership will enable Malaysia to strengthen cooperation in vaccine research and development, capacity building and public health preparedness, the ministry said in a statement following a document exchange between Chang and IVI Director General Jerome Kim on the sidelines of the National Innovation and Commercialization Expo 2026.
"Malaysia's participation in IVI is not just an institutional achievement. It opens up space for us to connect the country's science, technology and innovation strengths with global expertise so that vaccine research can be translated more effectively from the laboratory stage to clinical development and subsequently to solutions that benefit the people," Chang said.
Malaysia's participation in IVI complements the country's efforts under the National Vaccine Development Roadmap to develop a more resilient vaccine ecosystem by strengthening research and development, technological capabilities, clinical development, manufacturing, scientific talent and international collaboration, it said.
Areas of collaboration to be explored with IVI include vaccine research and development, expertise sharing, talent development, technology transfer and strengthening of Malaysia's capabilities in vaccine development and manufacturing. ■
