BERLIN, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed in a violent incident at a school in Gosen-Neu Zittau in the eastern German state of Brandenburg on Thursday, and a male suspect has been detained, German media reported.
According to local newspaper Maerkische Allgemeine Zeitung (MAZ), one of the victims was an 18-year-old female secondary school student, while the other was believed to be a 30-year-old man who died while trying to stop the perpetrator.
The suspect is 19 years old, police said. MAZ reported that he is believed to be the former boyfriend of the 18-year-old victim. It remains unclear whether he is also a student at the school.
A police spokesperson confirmed to MAZ that emergency services and police arrived at the scene at around 1:45 p.m. (1145 GMT). Police said there were no indications that the incident was a rampage attack.
Details about the weapon used and the motive have yet to be disclosed by police. German newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported that the suspect allegedly attacked several people with a knife.
According to German news agency dpa, the incident occurred at a privately run school on the outskirts of Gosen-Neu Zittau, a town of around 3,500 residents near Berlin. ■
