HONG KONG, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Customs said on Friday that it seized approximately 7.5 million Hong Kong dollars (about 956,600 U.S. dollars) worth of suspected cannabis buds.
The drug trafficking case, involving baggage concealment, was detected at Hong Kong International Airport, according to the customs authorities.
Weighing about 32 kg, the suspected cannabis buds were found in 29 bags inside two check-in suitcases belonging to a British male transit passenger, who was subsequently arrested.
The arrested person has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug.
Trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence in Hong Kong. Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of 5 million Hong Kong dollars and life imprisonment. ■
