BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.11 percent to 3,952.18 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.68 percent lower at 13,953.07 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 2.1 trillion yuan (about 310 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.13 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares in the sectors of planting, forestry, fertilizers, and agrochemical products led the gains, while medical services and biological products were among the top losers.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.41 percent to close at 3,424.40 points Friday.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 1.57 percent lower at 1,942.91 points. ■
