GYIRONG, Xizang, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and 558 others remained missing as of 3 p.m. on Friday after a mudslide struck a port along the China-Nepal border in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, according to the region's emergency management department.
Among the missing, 260 have been identified as foreign nationals.
In response to the mudslide, which occurred on Wednesday, the on-site headquarters deployed a search-and-rescue task force to the hardest-hit area. The rescuers reached the border crossing at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and carried out search and rescue operations. ■
