MOSCOW, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- A Russian lieutenant colonel was killed and his wife seriously injured in a car blast in St. Petersburg on Thursday, local media reported.
The explosion occurred on Kolpinskoye Highway in the morning. The lieutenant colonel was driving away from his home when an explosive device detonated inside the vehicle.
The St. Petersburg branch of Russia's Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation. Investigators, forensic experts and operational personnel are examining the scene. ■
