ISLAMABAD, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces killed 11 terrorists in separate intelligence-based operations in the country's northwest and southwest, Radio Pakistan reported Thursday, citing security sources.
Two terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed during an operation in Bannu district of the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the report said, adding that weapons and ammunition were recovered.
In a separate operation in the Ladha area of South Waziristan district in the same province, security forces killed five other terrorists, according to the report.
Meanwhile, four terrorists were killed in an operation in the Sasool area of Khuzdar district in the southwest Balochistan province, where security forces used a quadcopter to target the militants, Radio Pakistan said.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the successful operations.
"The elimination of terrorist elements active with foreign support is essential for national security and lasting peace," Zardari said, adding, "We will rid Pakistan of the scourge of terrorism."
The prime minister said the entire nation stood alongside the security forces in the fight against terrorism and reaffirmed Pakistan's determination to completely eliminate all forms of terrorism from the country. ■
