ASUNCION, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Veteran Argentine manager Gustavo Costas pledged on Wednesday to inject new energy into Cerro Porteno after taking charge of the Paraguayan club for a second time.

The 63-year-old replaces compatriot Ariel Holan, who was sacked on Monday after a poor run of results.

"I'm happy to be back in Paraguay," Costas told reporters. "People know very well how much I love this country. It opened its doors for me to work, and from that moment on, the entire Paraguayan public has always treated me very well."

Cerro Porteno is currently ninth in Paraguay's Primera Division standings with two wins from six games.

Costas, who had been out of work after leaving Argentina's Racing in May, said he already had a recovery plan for the Asuncion-based club.

"The team isn't in a good spot right now," said Costas, who also led Cerro Porteno in 2005 and 2006.

"Our job is to change that. Cerro can't be in this position; it's a giant club. The boys know they have to give a little bit more, everyone does. We're going to lift the intensity and that's a trait of all of the teams I have managed."
