BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The second World Humanoid Robot Games closed here on Wednesday with Germany's B-Human claiming the soccer 5v5 Medium Robot Group title and praising China's rapid advances in robotics and AI.
The five-day event featured 51 competitions, drawing 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries and regions. Humanoid robots from Chinese company Booster Robotics were widely adopted in the matches.
"I really like the Booster Robotics' robots because they can be very precise in their movement and actions," said Florian Niklas Scholz, team member of B-Human. He noted that China is "definitely a very big player in the field of AI technology," adding, "We should learn from it."
Team leader Thomas Michael Rofer highlighted Chinese teams' notable progress. "Deep learning makes it possible to let these robots walk that quickly and steadily and detect the environment which has become a lot easier," he said. He also praised Booster Robotics' robots as "quite reliable, and the support is good."
Rofer attributed China's strong performance to its rapidly developing robotic industry. "There are many Chinese companies now which produce humanoid robots. More than 20 years ago, there were very few ones," he said. Looking ahead, he predicted that "robots will become as numerous as cars in the future, and China will contribute a lot." ■
