COLOGNE, Germany, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The world's largest trade fair for computer and video games Gamescom kicked off here on Wednesday.
The trade fair is open to trade visitors and media representatives on Wednesday and the five-day event is attended by more than 1,600 exhibitors from 67 countries and regions, over 70 percent of whom are international companies.
Jointly organized by the Cologne Exhibition Center (Koelnmesse) and the German Games Industry Association, Gamescom 2026 features game tryouts, Cosplay shows, board and car games, artist zone, campus recruitment and sales of game-related products on a total exhibition area of 233,000 square meters at the Cologne Exhibition Center.
It is the first time that the all the exhibition halls have been booked by exhibitors at Gamescom 2026. The number of exhibitors has hit a record high and the scale of the exhibition zone for independent game developers, which is devoted to showcasing the creativity and products of small teams is also unprecedented, Felix Falk, managing director of the German Games Industry Association said and added that they are a sign of the attraction of the gaming culture.
A total of 60 Chinese companies made their presence at Gamescom 2026, which is a new record high, Grace Pan, senior project manager at Koelnmesse, told Xinhua.
The games showcased by Chinese companies cover a great variety of topics and quite a few of them are making their overseas debut, ready for game lovers to test at the trade fair. The games cutting-edge technologies developed by Chinese companies are attracting wide attention from the gaming industry and gamers. ■
