CAIRO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and U.S. president's special envoy Steve Witkoff discussed regional developments and efforts to contain tensions in the region in a phone call on Tuesday.
During the call, Abdelatty stressed the need to intensify regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
He called for prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions and dialogue to address ongoing crises, prevent further instability, and safeguard the security and interests of countries and peoples in the region.
Abdelatty also underscored the importance of adhering to the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding and implementing its provisions, describing it as a constructive step toward reducing tensions and promoting security and stability in the Middle East.
The talks also covered freedom of navigation in international waterways. Abdelatty stressed the need to ensure safe and secure navigation, avoid disrupting the movement of vessels, and comply with relevant international law. ■
