ANKARA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye on Wednesday welcomed the dissolution of Syria's Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), saying the move would help strengthen state authority and advance efforts to build a unified and stable Syria.

Burhanettin Duran, presidential communications director, said the development was consistent with Türkiye's long-standing position that Syria's future should be determined by its own people.

"At the heart of this approach ... lies the conviction that Syria's future must be shaped solely by the will of the Syrian people," Duran said in a statement.

He described the dissolution of the SDF as "an important development in strengthening state authority across the country and bringing different segments of society together on common political ground."

Omer Celik, spokesperson for Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party, welcomed the SDF's dissolution as a "significant threshold" for Syria's internal unity.

Reaffirming Türkiye's commitment to Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, Celik said that Ankara will continue to support every step taken for the stability, security, and prosperity of Syria and neighboring countries.

On Tuesday, Mazloum Abdi, commander of the SDF, announced the dissolution of the SDF as a military force, saying its mission had ended as the country moves toward a new phase of integration and state-building.
