RIJEKA, Croatia, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Mexican twins Mia Cueva Lobato and Lia Cueva Lobato won the girls' synchronized 3m springboard title, while Russia's Matvei Pomoshnikov triumphed in the boys' Group A 1m springboard at the 2026 World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships here on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old Lobato sisters scored 283.02 points to secure Mexico's second gold medal of the championships. Russia's Viktoria Kazantseva and Nadezhda Trifonova took silver, while Canada's Lila Stewart and Mackenzie-Mai Van Houtte-Cachero won bronze.
Mia and Lia, who have been diving together for seven years, finished first and second respectively in the girls' Group B 1m springboard. Their elder sister Suri Cueva Lobato also took silver in the girls' synchronized platform.
"I was really nervous during this competition, but Mia calmed me down," Lia said after the win.
Mia said her focus in synchronized diving was simply to "trust the training."
Also on Tuesday, Pomoshnikov topped the podium after collecting two silvers and one bronze earlier in the championships.
Germany's Finn Awe held the lead after the preliminary scores were carried into the final, but a mistake in the fourth round opened the door for Pomoshnikov, who moved ahead and sealed victory with a competition-high 76.80 points on his final dive. He finished with 333.90 points.
Awe took silver, while Canada's Arnaud Corbeil claimed bronze.
The boys' Group B 3m springboard and girls' Group B platform will take place on Wednesday. ■
