BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee opened its 18th session on Tuesday under the theme of ensuring and improving people's livelihoods.

Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, attended the meeting.

Vice Premier He Lifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, was invited to attend the meeting and deliver a report.

He called for tangible progress regarding major livelihood tasks, including promoting high-quality and full employment, improving the income distribution system and social security system, ensuring the property sector's high-quality development, and advancing basic public service equalization.

Shi Taifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.

Noting that solid steps toward common prosperity are an overall requirement guiding economic and social development in the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), Shi called on members of the CPPCC Standing Committee to contribute their insightful views and suggestions to advance Chinese modernization.

A report on the work of the CPPCC National Committee in the first half of 2026, compiled by the Chairpersons Council of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, was heard at the opening of the session.
