JERUSALEM, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Mossad chief Roman Gofman and Syrian foreign affairs chief Asaad al-Shaibani met on Sunday in a bid to ease tensions following an Israeli airstrike on a Syrian airport earlier this week, according to Israeli media.
Israel's N12 TV news cited two unnamed officials who described the meeting as "good," saying it aimed to calm tensions between the two countries.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office did not comment on the matter. The report does not mention the location of the meeting.
Israel struck the Abu al-Duhur military airport in northwestern Syria on Tuesday, saying Damascus was preparing to allow Turkish forces to deploy there, a claim denied by Syria and Türkiye. ■
