TEHRAN, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi is scheduled to visit Iran on Tuesday for consultations on bilateral and regional issues, Iran's Foreign Ministry announced Monday.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a statement Monday that the foreign ministers of both countries will meet during the visit.
The visit aims to sustain ongoing political dialogue and help strengthen regional peace and security between the two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz, Baghaei added.
Iran and Oman have been negotiating in recent weeks to reach an agreement on designating a new route in the strait to ensure safe maritime traffic.
Iran tightened its grip on the Strait of Hormuz on Feb. 28, barring safe passage of vessels belonging to or affiliated with Israel and the United States following their joint strikes on Iranian territory. ■
