CAIRO, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad on Sunday discussed efforts to advance Palestinian national reconciliation and the latest developments in the Palestinian territories with a delegation from the Palestinian Authority.
According to Egypt's Al-Qahera News channel, the Palestinian delegation was headed by Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh and included Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh and Palestinian intelligence chief Majed Faraj.
The talks also covered developments in the West Bank and preparations for upcoming Palestinian elections, the channel reported.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to unify national efforts to confront the challenges facing the Palestinian cause at the current stage, it added.
Cairo has hosted a series of intra-Palestinian meetings in recent days involving various factions, as well as talks with Egyptian officials and mediators on a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree on July 9 setting Nov. 28 as the date for legislative elections, with presidential elections to be held in the first quarter of 2027.
The last Palestinian legislative elections were held in 2006. Subsequent elections were repeatedly postponed amid the political division between Fatah and Hamas. ■
