FUZHOU, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Gaenari made landfall at around 12:30 p.m. Monday along the coast of Zhangban Township in the city of Quanzhou, in east China's Fujian Province, according to the Fujian provincial meteorological observatory.
The 20th typhoon of the year made landfall after strengthening from a tropical depression into a tropical storm at 11 a.m. on Monday, with maximum sustained winds of 18 meters per second (Force 8) near its center.
After making landfall, Gaenari is expected to continue moving northwestward, gradually weakening in intensity. ■
