ISLAMABAD, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday departed for Iran as part of Islamabad's efforts to promote regional peace and stability, the country's military said.
Munir's visit will focus on promoting efforts toward a peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution of the conflict in the Middle East, the Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of the Pakistani army, said in a statement.
The visit comes as Pakistan continues diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue and de-escalation amid persistent tensions involving Iran and the United States.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei earlier said the visit would build on Pakistan's efforts to strengthen peace and security in the region. ■
