TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will depart for Iran on Monday at the head of an official delegation for talks with senior Iranian officials, according to Iran's Foreign Ministry.
The visit aims to deepen bilateral cooperation and advance Pakistan's mediation efforts to bolster regional peace and security, ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a statement Sunday.
Pakistan has mediated peace talks between Iran and the United States following the eruption of war on Feb. 28.
In a phone call on Saturday, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Munir discussed the latest regional developments and efforts to strengthen peace, stability and security in the West Asia region, according to another statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry. ■
