YEREVAN, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Armenia and South Sudan have established diplomatic relations, Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Friday.
Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Armenia's permanent representative to the UN, and Cecilia Adeng, South Sudan's permanent representative to the UN, signed a joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in New York Wednesday, the Armenian ministry said in a statement.
Armenia recognized South Sudan as an independent state in July 2011. ■
