RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Breno Bidon struck late as 10-man Corinthians advanced to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals with a 1-0 home win over Rosario Central on Thursday.
The hosts were forced to play for more than half an hour with a numerical disadvantage after Raniele, who had already been booked, was shown a straight red card for a bad foul on Enzo Copetti.
The visitors dominated possession in the final minutes but Corinthians broke the deadlock against the run of play when Bidon beat Jeremias Ledesma at his near post with a first-time strike after Memphis Depay's set-piece delivery.
The result followed a goalless draw in last week's first leg in Argentina, handing the Brazilian side a 1-0 win on aggregate.
In Thursday's only other Copa Libertadores round-of-16 fixture, Ecuadorian side LDU Quito advanced with a 5-4 penalty-shootout win over Brazil's Mirassol. ■
