MANILA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines will strengthen measures for the security of firearms issued to police, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday.
"We remind all our personnel to exercise utmost responsibility in securing their firearms, especially when they are off duty and at home," PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. was quoted by local media as saying.
The move follows a series of school shootings this year, some of which involved firearms traced to the shooters' relatives in law enforcement, raising public concern over police firearm security. ■
