JAKARTA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a magnitude-7.7 earthquake that struck Flores in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province has risen to 83, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said Friday.
The agency said 328 people were seriously injured and 639 others sustained minor injuries, bringing the total number of casualties, including fatalities, to 1,050. Nearly 100,000 people were displaced due to damaged or unsafe houses.
"Handling of the earthquake's impacts is still ongoing," Basarnas said in a situation report, adding that its national command post continued to monitor developments and coordinate with search and rescue teams in affected areas.
The agency said the casualty figures remained provisional and could change as identification and verification efforts continued. ■
