SYDNEY, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Australia's largest electricity retailer said on Friday that some customers' full bank account numbers were accessed in a major cybersecurity breach in July.

Origin Energy said in a statement that approximately 60 of around 900,000 affected customers had their full bank account numbers accessed in the data security incident.

Additionally, it said that the ID document numbers of 100 customers had been accessed, while the numbers associated with government schemes or programs of 15,000 customers had also been accessed.

Origin, which provides electricity, gas and internet to 4.8 million customers across Australia, disclosed the cybersecurity breach on July 22 after a hacker claimed to have accessed the data of around 2 million customers.

The company initially said it did not believe the compromised data included credit card or bank account details, but on July 23 said that partial bank account and credit card details may have been impacted.

Chief Executive Officer Frank Calabria said on Friday that a criminal investigation into the breach is ongoing.

"We have taken a number of steps to enhance the security of our systems to prevent future incidents of this kind," he said.
