SYDNEY, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Four people are receiving medical treatment after a fire broke out in the intensive care unit at a major hospital in Western Australia (WA) on Thursday.

The fire was reported in a self-contained room at the public Fiona Stanley Hospital in the southern suburbs of Perth around 10 a.m. local time on Thursday.

The fire was extinguished and did not spread beyond the room, but a spokesperson for WA's South Metropolitan Health Service told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that three staff members and a patient were undergoing medical assessment.

They said that some services have been temporarily closed due to water damage and smoke impact and the hospital has imposed cautionary measures, including patient relocation and short-term ambulance diversions.

"Non-urgent visitors are urged to postpone their visit to the hospital, while our staff work to return services to normal," the spokesperson said.

The Fiona Stanley Hospital has 783 beds for patients.
