LISBON, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- A 28-year-old professional diver went missing on Wednesday while carrying out underwater work on the sea chest of a merchant ship in Portugal, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) said.
The ship was docked at Lisnave, a ship repair company in the Setubal municipality, south of Lisbon. The alert was received at 1006 local time (0906 GMT) through Lisnave shipyard.
Search operations were immediately launched by crew from the Sesimbra Lifeboat Station and members of the Forensic Diving and Underwater Operations Group of the Maritime Police.
A Portuguese Air Force aircraft was also activated to support the search. ■
