SHIJIAZHUANG, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and one other injured after a residential building partially collapsed in Shijiazhuang, capital of north China's Hebei Province, local authorities said Wednesday.
The collapse occurred at 5:42 a.m. in a four-story residential building in the city's Xinhua District. A total of four people were trapped in two households, of whom three died in hospital despite emergency treatment, while the other is receiving medical attention and is in stable condition, according to the city's emergency management bureau.
Firefighters, police and emergency responders rushed to the scene immediately after the incident.
Preliminary investigation suggests a gas leak may have caused the collapse. All residents in the affected building and surrounding areas have been properly relocated.
An investigation into the exact cause is underway. ■
