ASUNCION, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a multi-vehicle collision in central Paraguay over the weekend has risen to six, the National Police confirmed on Tuesday.

The latest victim was a 45-year-old man who had been hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit at the Itaugua National Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition due to multiple injuries.

The man was driving a car carrying an adult woman, who died a day after the accident.

The other four victims, who died at the scene, were all members of a family. Their car was hit by the truck, collided with a high-voltage electrical tower and then caught fire.

The accident occurred Saturday when a cargo truck carrying bricks lost its brakes while going down a slope and crashed into four vehicles waiting at a traffic light on National Route PY02 in Ypacarai, Central Department.

Five people who suffered injuries, including four minors, have been discharged.

The truck driver, who managed to get out of the cabin before the vehicle caught fire, has been charged with manslaughter.
