YANGON, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has introduced discounted electricity tariffs for large power-consuming industries using electricity during nighttime, in a bid to ensure stable supply for the public during the daytime and improve power grid stability, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Electricity and Energy on Monday.
The ministry said eligible industries will be allowed to use electricity at a discounted rate of 600 kyats (about 0.29 U.S. dollars) per unit, down from the standard rate of 900 kyats per unit, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily.
The initiative aims to increase public access to electricity during the daytime, improve power grid stability and reduce industrial production costs, it said.
The ministry said it is continuously striving to implement reforms in electricity generation, transmission and distribution across the country to ensure an uninterrupted power supply for the public and industrial and commercial enterprises, as well as maintain power system stability. ■
