BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Gonzalo Montiel and Angel Correa scored in each half as River Plate eased to a 2-0 home win over Argentinos Juniors in Argentina's Clausura tournament on Sunday.
The hosts took the lead through Montiel, who pounced on a loose ball and coolly rolled the ball into the far corner.
Former Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after he was dragged down by Gabriel Florentin.
The result snapped a four-game losing run and leaves River 14th in the 15-team Zone B standings. Argentinos Juniors remains top of the group, with 12 points so far.
"We've been going through a tough time but today we showed a different version of ourselves," said Correa. "It was important to have the support of our fans today and we'll know that we'll be needing more of it in the games ahead."
In other Argentine top-flight matches on Sunday, Rosario Central won 1-0 at Barracas, Instituto prevailed 1-0 at Central Cordoba and Sarmiento secured a 2-0 home win over Huracan. ■
