BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Emergency Management has sent 13 emergency drainage teams to the city of Zhoukou in central China's Henan Province to assist with urban waterlogging relief efforts, the ministry said on Sunday.
The teams from Henan, Shaanxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong and Hunan provinces, arrived in Zhoukou and began operations by 9 a.m. on Sunday.
They have a combined drainage capacity of about 220,000 cubic meters per hour, according to the ministry.
Henan has been lashed by torrential downpours brought by the remnants of Typhoon Dolphin, the year's 13th typhoon, that landed in east China last Sunday.
Following the heavy rain, a levee along the Jialu River, a tributary of the Shaying River, breached in Zhoukou on Thursday, widening to roughly 117 meters at its peak. The breach was sealed on Saturday night.
The flood peak on the Shaying River has passed through Zhoukou, while water levels in the Zhoukou section are expected to remain above the warning level through Sunday, the Ministry of Water Resources noted. ■
