BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay forward Miguel Merentiel scored a late equalizer as Boca Juniors earned a 1-1 draw at Platense in Argentina's Clausura tournament on Saturday.
Kevin Retamar gave the hosts the lead with a 53rd-minute strike but Merentiel put his side on level terms with a close-range finish after Santiago Ascacibar's headed pass.
The result leaves Boca 11th in the 15-team Zone A standings with six points, one ahead of 13th-placed Platense.
"Platense took the lead and that's when we played our best football," Boca manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena told a post-match news conference.
"We had the personality and character to stay calm while looking for the goal, generating what we are used to. We equalized, and right at the end we had three or four chances, but a draw is the fairest result."
Elsewhere in Argentina's top flight on Saturday, San Lorenzo won 1-0 at home to Union, Aldosivi was held to a goalless home draw by Tigre, Estudiantes cruised to a 4-0 home win over Gimnasia La Plata, Newell's Old Boys won 2-0 at home to Deportivo Riesta, and Belgrano prevailed 2-0 at home to Independiente Rivadavia. ■
