VIENNA, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The 2026 Chinese operatic performances series "Legend of the Chinese Opera" kicked off in Vienna on Saturday night, once again bringing Chinese and Western cultures together through the performing arts.
At the opening ceremony, Luise Daeger-Gregori, a member of the Vienna state parliament, said the event has built a cultural bridge connecting China with Vienna, Austria and Europe.
Noting the great success of last year's opera season, she said this year's program would continue to offer audiences four outstanding productions.
Wu Lingfeng, deputy secretary-general of the China Opera Research Society (CORS), described the event as an artistic dialogue transcending time and cultural boundaries, and an in-depth exchange between Eastern and Western aesthetics.
The series is jointly hosted by CORS and the Vienna-based International Culture Cooperations.
Throughout 2026, it will present performances featuring a variety of traditional Chinese opera genres, including Gaojia Opera, Peking Opera, Huangmei Opera and Hui Opera. ■
