MANILA, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Philippine police arrested seven people and seized an estimated 21 million pesos (about 341,820 U.S. dollars) worth of smuggled cigarettes off Sipalay City, central Philippines, on Saturday, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The PNP Maritime Group intercepted the suspects aboard a motorized vessel and confiscated 525 master cases of smuggled cigarettes.
The suspects face charges under the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, and the Graphic Health Warnings Law, according to the PNP. ■
