BUDAPEST, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Russia continued to lead the medal table after winning its fifth gold, while China added a bronze medal in the mixed duet technical at the 2026 World Aquatics Junior Artistic Swimming Championships on Friday.

In the only medal event of the day, Russia's Zakhar Trofimov and Alina Rumiantseva won with 234.1350 points. It was Trofimov's second gold medal in Budapest following his victory in the men's solo technical event on the opening day.

Spain's Martina Garcia and Eneko Sanchez finished second on 221.6983. Performing their "Symbiosis"-themed routine, China's Chen Keyu and Jin Yanxiao took third place with 217.5259 points.

After three competition days, China won three silvers and one bronze, sitting second behind Russia on the medal table.

The women's duet free preliminaries saw fierce competition.

Spain's Naia Alvarez and Daniela Suarez topped the field, edging Russia's Kristina Chekhanova and Anastasiia Sidorina by 0.2733 points. China's He Zhien and Zhou Kunyi delivered a steady performance to score 292.7822 points for third place, just 2.0537 points shy of the top score.

China also placed third in the team free preliminaries, behind Russia and Spain.

Three titles will be decided on Saturday in the women's duet free, mixed duet free and team acrobatic events.
