MADRID, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has spoken to the FC Barcelona website about the knee injury he suffered while playing for the Netherlands in the World Cup and which will sideline him for the opening months of the new La Liga season.
De Jong told the official Barcelona website he was "really gutted" at the injury, "because what I love most is playing football."
"I was really unlucky, because it was an accident: someone fell on top of me and did a small thing to my knee. They did tests and it turned out there was something small," he explained.
He commented that the Netherlands' medical team told him, he "could keep playing, that I would be uncomfortable and in pain, but that I could keep playing, and they assured me it couldn't get any worse."
"I kept playing because I love to play, the World Cup is a dream. I would always do anything to play, I've done it many times at Barca too, and I kept playing," continued the midfielder.
However, De Jong explained that when he returned to Barcelona, "We did a test and it turned out that the injury was more serious than when we took the images in the United States."
"It was very hard because I didn't expect it, nobody expected it, and that was really tough. Now I have to be out, I have to do the recovery, and I didn't expect that," he added. ■
