MADRID, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Deportivo A Coruna has extended coach Antonio Hidalgo's contract until June 2028 after he led the club back to La Liga last season.
The new deal adds a year to the 47-year-old's previous contract, which was due to expire in June 2027, as Deportivo prepares for its first season in Spain's top flight since 2018.
Hidalgo took charge of Deportivo a year ago after two seasons with Huesca and guided the Galician club to promotion with a second-place finish in the second division.
Deportivo had the division's best away record and lost only nine of its 42 league matches, conceding 44 goals.
The club has strengthened its squad ahead of its return to La Liga, bringing in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, goalkeeper Leo Roman and midfielder Lorenzo Amatucci.
Deportivo opens its La Liga campaign at home to Elche on Monday. ■
